Dominican
Republic Mission Trip
Date: August 16-23, 2010
This
summer, Pastor Jeff Gargano will embark on a mission trip with 6 teens and 2
chaperones from our congregation to be part of a life changing
opportunity. The Mission Team is heading to Mata Gorda, a tiny village
outside Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic to work alongside Youth With A Mission.
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is an international volunteer movement of
Christians dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. YWAM is involved
with Discipleship Training, Community Development, and various mission outreach
programs.
While
in Mata Gorda, the Mission Team will be involved in manual
work including pouring concrete floors in homes which otherwise have earthen
flooring, patching old walls or building new ones, and painting new and
existing walls. The Mission Team will also deliver basic food items such as
rice, beans, sugar, and flour to the families in the community. More
importantly, the Mission Team will play and interact with children and adults
in the community to build relationships based on faith. This trip will be an
invaluable learning experience to gain cultural awareness of the families of
Dominican Republic and the everyday struggles and challenges they encounter in
daily living. Each day will begin and end reflecting on God’s goodness and the
opportunities we have to serve in God’s name.
The
cost of transportation, housing and meals, and building materials and food to
distribute to the families is estimated to be $1,000 per person, for an overall
team goal of $9,000. The Mission Team has raised over $5,000 to date through
private donations and fundraising events. If you would like to contribute to
this great cause or would like more information, please call the church office
at (914) 631-4497. Your support and encouragement would be greatly appreciated!
